Community-Based Forest Management Rules Manual Korab Protected Area

Description

The Community Forest Management Rules Manual in the Korab-Koritnik Protected Area provides a clear and practical framework for the sustainable use of forest resources, aiming at conserving biodiversity, preventing illegal exploitation and improving the livelihoods of local communities.

The document sets out the basic management principles, the legal and institutional framework, as well as zoning rules for strict conservation, sustainable use, restoration and controlled access. It clarifies the roles and responsibilities of the Protected Area Authority, the Community Forestry Committee, park rangers and supporting actors.

The manual includes detailed rules for the use of timber, firewood, non-timber products, grazing, fire prevention, as well as monitoring, reporting and sanctioning mechanisms. Particular importance is given to the fair sharing of benefits and the establishment of a Community Forest Fund for restoration and local services.

The document promotes participatory decision-making, transparency and peaceful conflict resolution, as well as fosters capacity development and sustainable eco-tourism.

The ALCDF Foundation, in collaboration with local partners and within the framework of the project “Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in the Sharr, Mavrovo and Korab-Koritnik Mountains”, funded by PONT, has facilitated the possibility of implementing this document, contributing to the strengthening of community management and the long-term preservation of the natural values of the area.
