About the Project
WEDA Objectives & Results
Dibër lies in Albania's rugged northeastern highlands - an off-the-beaten-path destination known for dramatic natural scenery, rich cultural heritage, and living tradition. The region is home to Albania's highest peak, Mount Korab, the "Black Drin" river, and the glacial lakes of Lura. Its two national parks - Lura National Park and Korab-Koritnik Nature Park - protect rivers, glacial lakes, caves, canyons, meadows, and forests of beech, pine, fir, and oak, alongside more than 30 mammal species including brown bear, wolf, chamois, roe deer, and lynx.
Our Objectives
The project aims to promote the socio-economic wellbeing and sustainable livelihood opportunities of women in agritourism, by building their capacities, improving service environments, and increasing the accountability and effectiveness of financing.
Our Approach
This is achieved by training 100 women in integrated agritourism across the Dibër region. Following this training, workshops are organized for 25 women in hospitality and 25 more in traditional culinary and catering skills. Marketing activities follow, including building business connections, promoting products, and improving online presence. A final phase includes field visits to see agritourism best practices firsthand.
Expected Results
Women in agritourism will have greater capacity to grow their businesses and attract visitors across the Dibër region.
Women in hospitality and culinary trades will gain practical knowledge to improve the quality of their services.
New business connections will open fresh income opportunities for the women involved.
Women in agritourism will be able to promote their products at the annual harvest fair in Peshkopi and through a new online tourism platform for Dibër.
Overall, 100 participating rural women will strengthen their economic empowerment and gain valuable skills that improve their livelihood prospects.
