Description
This document presents a detailed assessment of the status and productivity of pastures in the Korab-Koritnik Protected Area, with the aim of supporting the sustainable management of these ecosystems of high ecological and socio-economic importance. The study analyses the current status of alpine and subalpine meadows, their carrying capacity, the level of degradation and the main factors affecting productivity, such as climate change, overgrazing, erosion and fires.
The document was made possible in the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in the Sharr Mountains, Mavrovo and Korab-Koritnik", funded by the Prespa and Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT). The project implementer is the Albanian Local Capacity Development Foundation (ALCDF), in partnership with CSCD in North Macedonia and LAG "Dibra Turistike" in Albania.
The study was carried out by Prof. Dr. Elvin Toromani and his team, in collaboration with vegetation and GIS experts, combining scientific work with community involvement, in close cooperation with the protected area administration.
The main stakeholders involved and influenced by this document include local communities, herders, farmers, park administration, local government, public institutions, donors and environmental organizations. The document serves as a reference for planning, decision-making and concrete interventions for the conservation and sustainable use of pastures.
The document serves as a scientific basis and as a call to continue investments that guarantee the conservation of landscapes and the well-being of communities.
