Spring in Gramë (Korab-Koritnik Natural Park)

In the heart of the Korab mountains, where snow gradually yields to spring, the Shar crocus (Crocus scardicus) blooms with remarkable splendor. A rare and delicate flower that breaks through ice and frozen soil, bursting forth like the first miracle of the season. Its delicate petals, in shades of white, light violet or purple, open gently under the first rays of sun, as if unveiling a new promise of life.

Its flowering is a quiet yet powerful act: an ancient reminder of nature's force through stone and snow, a simple and magnificent greeting for those who wander the cold peaks. The Shar crocus does not demand attention — it simply shines, pure, simple, and perfect for a single moment, before embracing nature's eternal cycle.

The Shar crocus, Macedonian Tulip (Fritillaria macedonica), Elwes' snowdrop (Galanthus elwesii), Shar violet (Viola scharensis), Marsh marigold (Caltha palustris) — a relic plant from the glacial period, etc. — are the first heralds of spring in the park.

ALCDF, within the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Shar Mountain, Mavrova, and Korab-Koritnik," is implementing a study on the Inventory of Rare and Endemic Plants for the Korab-Koritnik Natural Park with the expert team from the Iliria Association. This project is financed by the PONT program – Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust, implemented by ALCDF and partners CSCD and LAG Dibra Tourism.
