Meeting for the Launch of the Community Monitoring Network Process for Protected Areas in Kora-Koritnik Natural Park Supported by PONT

The community monitoring network for protected areas is a key element in the proper management of national parks in the Sharr-Korab massif. The process of establishing a community monitoring network for the protected area in Kora-Koritnik Natural Park has begun. Village elders, heads of Administrative Units, and local authorities in Dibër municipality gathered and discussed the role of community monitors in controlling illegal interventions, preventing and signaling fires, preventing damage to flora and fauna from uncontrolled exploitation, forest care, and biodiversity values in this park.

Community interest in the proper management of protected areas is high, but communication with protected area management authorities and other institutions has not been at the appropriate level. Practical forms and actions of communication and cooperation are needed so that structures at village level can contribute effectively to the proper management of protected areas. The community monitoring network is a structure that facilitates communication and cooperation between management structures and local communities for protected areas, but it must be formalized and active.

This activity is organized within the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Sharr Mountain, Mavrova, and Kora-Koritnik," financed by the PONT program – Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust, implemented by ALCDF and partners CSCD and LAG Dibra Turistike.
