Community Meetings in Village Areas of the Sharr-Korab Massif within the PONT Project

Village communities located in the protected areas of the Sharr-Korab massif are key actors in the proper management of these protected zones. In recent days, awareness-raising and informational meetings have been organized with residents of villages in Dibër to discuss the roles, services, benefits, and obligations of communities in the protection and proper administration of these areas. These meetings were also utilized to discuss the main threats from illegal interventions, forest management primarily for firewood, pasture management, and most currently, the measures that need to be undertaken to protect against fires.

The project team for "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Sharr Mountain, Mavrovo, and Korab-Koritnik" paid particular attention to promoting coordination and communication that residents should maintain with the staff of the Protected Areas Administration, for the proper management of these natural values that the Sharr-Korab massif possesses. These meetings were organized within the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Sharr Mountain, Mavrovo, and Korab-Koritnik", funded by the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust - PONT program, with project implementers ALCDF and partners CSCD and LAG Dibra Turistike.
