Research Assessment of the Condition and Productivity of Pastures in the Korab-Koritnik Protected Zone
Research Assessment of the Condition and Productivity of Pastures in the Korab-Koritnik Protected Zone. The Korab-Koritnik Protected Zone contains some of the most unique alpine and subalpine pastures in Albania, with rare values for biodiversity, impacting climate regulation and the livelihoods of shepherds and local populations.
Within the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Sharr Mountain, Mavrovo, and Korab-Koritnik," financed by the PONT program – Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust, implemented by ALCDF and partners CSCD and LAG Dibra Turistike, a detailed assessment study of the current condition and productive capacities of pastures in the Korab-Koritnik Protected Zone was conducted by the ALCDF team with researcher Elvin Toromani from the Faculty of Forest Sciences at the Agricultural University of Tirana.
The study focused on assessing the current condition of pastures, productivity, and the main threats to these fragile ecosystems, ranging from overgrazing and erosion to climate change and habitat fragmentation.
Work continues by the ALCDF team and expert, who are consulting with stakeholders, presenting the study findings, and will soon release key recommendations.
Together, we can contribute to ensuring these mountain ecosystems remain protected, in harmony with nature, serving traditional pastoral livelihoods, for today and for generations to come tomorrow.
