Workshop supported by the EU4Culture grants programme, financed by European Union
On January 15, 2025, near Restaurant Marinari in Patoku Lagoon, an educational workshop was organized between Grandmother Diella, students from the 9-year and secondary school GurrΓ«z, and expert and researcher of Albanian gastronomic history Dhurata Thanasi. This activity aimed to convey the rich culinary traditions of Patoku lagoon to younger generations, creating a bridge between cultural heritage and practical education.
The goal of the activity was to teach traditional recipes passed down through generations, as well as to become acquainted with local products of the area, starting from the variety of lagoon fish and crustaceans, vegetation, fruits and vegetables, seasonal consumption, etc.
Grandmother Diella shared cooking stories about ancient techniques for preparing fish, the local vocabulary for naming fish, and how mussels became part of menus in the years after the 90s.
The expert explained to students how gastronomy in general, and local gastronomy in particular, plays a fundamental role, not only in the pleasure it offers thanks to its unique flavor, but also in strengthening tourism and sustainability in the local economy.
This meeting was realized within the framework of the project "Timeless Tastes: Enjoy the dishes, products and ballads of Kurbin" financed by the European Union (EU) within the EU4Culture program, and implemented by ALCDF.
