Tirana-Durrës-Rinas Railway, information and awareness meetings with businesses

Businesses operating along the route of the new railway project connecting Tirana with Durrës and branching the network to Rinas international airport are being informed about the benefits and safety issues of railway transport.

As Albanian Railways Sh.a. advances field works through the contractor, civil society organizations, contracted by EBRD consultants, are conducting information and awareness meetings. Experts from the Albanian Foundation for Local Capacity Development (ALCDF) held meetings with the administrative staff of "Aquila Liquori" company, which employs over 60 employees, and Metal Nesimi sh.p.k. with 47 employees. ALCDF representatives presented the railway project, the advantages arising from the use of the train as well as the regulations that enable safe and sustainable use of this form of transport. The leaders of these businesses showed interest in the project already being implemented by Albanian Railways. While currently the companies cover transport costs themselves for employees, the commissioning of the train as an alternative means of transportation is seen by them as a good opportunity to reduce expenses. Furthermore, railway transport was considered effective not only for the movement of people but in the near perspective also for goods, as these businesses are provided with the opportunity to connect with the city of Durrës where the country's largest commercial port is located. The administration of "Aquila Liquori" and Nesimi Sh.p.k. undertook to carry out the distribution of prepared materials to employees with the aim of informing and raising their awareness about the project, the benefits, and safety aspects of railway transport.
